In 4-2, if there is a credit, have a reference line that enables us to connect the credit memo to the original invoice. When we look at the original invoice, it should also say the credit memo # automatically. Basically, if we look at the original invoice or the credit memo, we want to be able to easily flip over to the other invoice/credit memo that it's connected with.

That already exists. When entering one of the two invoices, you can put the existing inv # in the reference field at the top. Sage will look for that record and ask if you want to apply the current invoice you are entering to that prior invoice. Typically this would be for internal adjustments and not something the vendor needs to know.
Note: If the information needs to be shared with the vendor, then I recommend just paying both invoices on the next check so the vendor is aware you are taking the credit. Or applying them using a manual check with today's date and the check # as apply credit. Then you can print a vendor payment journal for that manual check for that vendor to print and share with the vendor.
