Our inventory is in pounds but some of our customers also require the number of pieces along with the weight. We could calculate the number of pieces if the weight per piece would be consistent but that is not the case in our situation. Our weight per piece may vary so we’d need a point of entry for the second UOM. For us, the most useful would be the Work Order Labor Entry where the Packaging Step Distribution user enters Progress Qty for the Lot No. (S)he would enter the number of pieces (or a value of other UOM) for this lot and the second UOM would be stored in timInvtTranDist table. I’m not talking about having the entire inventory in two corresponding UOMs (although that could be useful too). The second UOM would just have the informational value and all inventory transactions would use the “main” UOM.
This enhancement would be especially useful for those of us who do EDI and cannot calculate the second UOM required by the EDI partner.
