We expanded this field to 25 characters long ago, I'd love the standard system to be 25 if it is going to be expanded
Our company is seeing more and more of our customers use much longer PO numbers. I'd recommend the size be bumped up to 40 characters at a minimum.
We have several customers that are using PO numbers that are longer than 15 characters. This is especially true when dealing with orders from government/defense agencies.
Why only 20? Make it at least 30, so that there is wiggle room. I agree, though, that 15 is ridiculous and not of the real world.
FYI (FOR SAGE) - The Field is tarInvoice.CustPoNo.
I think this is a good idea. Keep in mind that to do it >properly< requires at least 30 table changes, plus any associated procedure and report changes. Not impossible by any means, but it is not as small as one might think. This issue has been entered into our internal system for consideration in a future release.
Changing it only for sales orders is one thing, but it should also be changed elsewhere such as AR Process Invoices, where it might actually be more important depending upon a customer's options.
