MRP currently does not look at blanket orders. When you are dealing with raw materials that have a long lead time and large minimum runs, blankets are required to secure our investment in these raw materials. We need to order the Raw materials based on the blanket orders and the manufacturing on the releases.

  • You may need to manage the release of your orders more effectively or speak to a developer because this is a pretty specific usage scenario. A blanket order is created with the expectation that there will be multiple releases under that blanket quantity and price for the customer but there is no planning methodology for when the orders are going to be created under a blanket. A blanket may or may not be a customer commitment to the quantity and price where an order is typically a firm commitment.

What is the rationale behind orders not being converted or created with the appropriate lead times so they can be included in the MRP demand calculations?
