Since it appears Sage lacks the motivation to significantly improve and enhance Sage MAS 500 but have extended its life to as far out as 2020, I would suggest that Sage consider making all the source code for this product open source in a similar manner that Microsoft did with Visual Studio. This would allow 3rd party developers to enhance and improve the product until such time as Sage decides to finally retire it.

In Microsoft's case, they still control the code for Visual Studio and the licensing of it for use. Microsoft engineers and 3rd part engineers each see each other comments with Microsoft having the final say of what is added to the product and what is not. Sage should mimic this collaboration with Sage MAS 500 to allow the user community to add improvements and functionality to it.
