Ability to switch to alternate materials based on stock availability. They don't want to change until they consume/use all of the existing product so a date trigger is not effective. The use of phantoms does work but it leaves a lot of dangling phantoms and causes annoying messages until someone goes in an changes the BOM to remove it and switch to the new product.
