Allow users to close the month for AR, AP & GL seperately. Usually, you complete all AR billings within a couple of days after the last day of the month so you want to stop users from posting. But AP needs to remain open for more days since it takes more time to get all the vendor invoices in. Then you want any AR or AP transactions to be closed while you finish closing the month in the GL as there may be more entries that need to be made that are outside of your AR/AP subsidiary ledgers. Being able to close the 3 modules independently or all at once would be beneficial. Many other accounting software products have this function.
