Althought he expanded item nuber helped in a few cases, several of my clients have expressed a need for longer serial numbers. Most products in the computer industry have extended serial numbers.
This fix has the added benefit of minimal report changes. Most reports or forms that include the serial number, do so on a separate line, so there should not be much if any report redesign. The screens that include to serial number are minimal, and most have available screen real estate to extend the number to the right.

Note that in order to do this, Sage will have to change the work order and job cost files to expand the serial number.
Has there been an update from Sage on this request? This is over 2 years old. More and More of our parts are coming in with 20+ digit serial numbers. How are others handling this?
This is a must needed upgrade. I can't believe this issue wasn't addressed in 4.4. The serial number fields hasn't been large enough to hold many serials numbers for years. This causes our company huge issues since we sell a lot of software and hardware items that have serial numbers larger than 15 characters. I really hope this issue is going to be fixed soon.
Still interested in Sage taking this on. There is no effective work around. Let's go Sage!

Seriously, who thunked that 15 characters is long enough?
VIN (serial numbers for vehicles)are 17 characters. Sage should expand to at least 20 characters preferably 30 or more characters.
Any information on when this will be changed? More and More vendors have serialized product over 15 characters. SAGE?????
I find this very disturbing that this enhancement request still hasn't been implemented. Users have been complaining about the size of this field since version 3, yet this still hasn't been done. This is a mission critical data field for inventory tracking, yet we still can't use it properly because it doesn't hold half the serial #'s our products have.
Any update on this? Everyday we have more vendors that use more than 15 characters for Serial Numbers. Can this field be increased to 30?
