MAS200 posting routines need exclusive access to required files. But would it make sense (or at least make life easier) to be able to push a button to put a module into "posting mode," which would then allow module access only to "designated" members of a posting control group?

We're using 4.2, I assume this is still a problem in newer releases.

The larger the firm, the worse it gets, especially when multiple locations are involved. No matter how many schedules we set, emails we send, or broadcast messages go out, there are always delays. But in almost all companies I've used MAS200 with in the last couple of decades, the posting personnel themselves are a tight group, usually centrally located.

Could we reduce conflicts by "a whole bunch" by creating an "eligible logins" flag for each module. When the flag is off, it's business as usual. But if the flag is on, putting the module in Posting Mode, then only Designated Posting Users could access the module. Setting the flag would not interrupt any "active" user, but an automated warning would be broadcast as soon as the flag was set: "Module is now in Posting Mode. Please save and exit immediately." Then no one could jump back in until the flag was turned off, eliminating delays.

Finally, only the Designated User that actually SET the flag could do any posting. Reducing crashes, double posts, partial double posts, corrupted files, etc. There are many interdependencies to work out, if this is even possible, but adding any sort of system control to this process would be much better than what we have now.
