Having the employee's SSN masked and having the beginning pay period date print on payroll checks is required by the state of California. Of course I know how to make the change in Crystal. Customers do not like having to pay for something when they perceive that the software should meet government requirements.

I would concur that the SSN should not be on the default pay stub. That's the first thing I do for clients in payroll is to remove the SSN.
Fortunately, these items are easily remedied by modifying the form. Yes, I agree that you shouldn't have to, but you might as well make the change and move on.
