In Sage 100 version 2018, you must apply tax rules to all earnings codes and deduction codes for Pension and Cafeteria types. There is no way to check which tax rules are subject to each tax or decrease each tax as there was in legacy versions for the earnings codes and these deduction codes. Sometimes it is not known which rule to use by the description, but we know which taxes should be applied. Currently, must choose by testing various rules to find the right combination. Would be helpful to have a lookup with this information that is also updated as rules are added or modified.

  • If you have a 401k plan that needs to be pre-tax, do not use the tax rule “Section 401(k) EE deduction” as it will not do pre-tax and it will tax on the deduction. Use the “Section 125 Code DD EE Deduction” tax rule. This will make it pre-tax deduction.

  • We just installed and found that out. This should have been put out there immediately. It would have cut out a lot of confusion. Also, at end of year they may want to make sure it can handle something with 0 federal tax but still calculate the NH unemployment.

  • As a firm that specializes in payroll I am hoping this is a top priority to resolve. We just installed and may not have if we had known this was going to be a guessing game. For anyone with a complicated set of earnings and deductions I would not suggest upgrading until this is fixed!

  • I'm trying to setup Employee Retirement Contributions. As far as I can tell, there isn't a tax rule for Pennsylvania 403(b) contributions, because Pennsylvania taxes all contributions as you make them. There also isn't a Tax Rule for ROTH Contributions. At least not that I can't tell if there is a tax rule, because I can't see the details of what is taxed in the tax rule.

  • You shouldn't use “Section 125 Code DD EE Deduction” tax rule for 401(k); the tax rule “Section 401(k) EE deduction” is correct - FICA is not reduced for 401(k) contributions. We've thoroughly tested and the tax rule calculated correctly.

  • A new Tax Rule Inquiry tool has been added to the Sage 100 Payroll 2.19.0 release.
