It would be helpful if you could just enter an invoice number and the customer would fill in during AR cash receipts. Sometimes the name on the check doesn't match what's in our customer database, but there is an invoice number noted on the check. Currently, I have to open an invoice history inquiry window to find the customer before I can receipt the payment.

That feature is already available in Cash Receipts Entry. Enter the invoice number into the field that is to the right of the customer name field, below the browse buttons. If the Invoice is found the customer number will be filled in automatically. If more than one open invoice is found a selection dialog will popup showing the invoices found and allow you to choose one.
