Important fields in Sage that require data entry are "starred". Why is the Phase area not a required field when it should be? Also, why, if the phase is not a "Required" field can you not go in and adjust this if you have made an error? Or better yet make it so that if the project has more than 1 phase each person doing any entries must select a job phase in order to save.

Yes, it is currently set up so it defaults to "none". Then you save and you can't change it doesn't even warn you. The phase is apparently important, and can conflict with future records. This should be explained in your the changes and subcontract seminars.
not everyone uses phasing people. If your company needs it to be required, you can change the properties to make it required
We want to use the phasing, but the system should force you to input a phase IF the job is set up with phases. And needs to allow us to delete phase 0 so users will stop making mistakes by saving without a phase.
