Please make the IRA calculation be gross wages less pre-tax health care deduction, multiplied by whatever percent an employee wishes for their IRA deduction. SIMPLE IRA salary deduction contributions must be based on wages subject to federal income tax withholding. As the pre-tax health deduction is not subject to federal income tax withholding, it needs to be part of the IRA calculation. Making this enhancement would save a lot of time while doing payroll, because the IRA amount impacts the federal income tax calculation. If the IRA amount is incorrect, federal tax withheld will be incorrect. Our health care deduction amount is pre-tax because we are in a Section 125 plan, which is a federal plan that we signed up for to make our health care deductions be pre-tax.
