A data input option for payroll records would benefit anyone running payroll. This option would allow for someone who is not at their work computer or without internet access (on vacation/on plane/during times when internet goes down) to continue to work on payroll entry. This would also allow for a lower level employee to prep payroll without having access to Sage, which could prevent potential errors.
The only options currently are:
- pay a 3rd party company to input payroll
- manual entry with access to Sage or internet access to remotely connect
We have a 401k program that allows for entry input with a pre-designed Excel worksheet. I would recommend this as the mode of entry as most companies utilize Excel regularly.

There’s also Sage Service Operations and Sage Construction Anywhere; they are apps that allow you to do these kinds of things.
If you’re set on using spreadsheets however, you could format an Excel sheet like the 5-5-1 screen. Then all you’d have to do is copy/paste each day from your spreadsheet to 5-5-1. I think most companies have biweekly payroll, so at most you’d have to copy/paste 14 days. From the 5-5-1 screen you can “create timecards” once all the data is in.
