If you try to create a custom report where the "Inventory Quantities" (invqty) table is the primary table, it only sorts by part number, even if you specify different grouping and sorting.
When I brought this issue up with tech support, I was advised that this issue is not a "bug" or "glitch", but it is in fact by design, so I need to submit a "product enhancement" idea. Here it is.
I think this probably slipped through testing, because all the system reports in the 12-1-2 screen are sorted by part number, so unless the developers would have made a custom report and made invqty the primary table in the custom report AND changed the grouping/sorting, no test would have found a problem.
This has been tested on different servers, versions, and virtually any other way a user can possibly test this. You cannot sort the invqty table.
Our part numbers are arbitrary numbers. I don't think this is something unique to our business. I'm sure some companies have a part numbering system, but I'm also sure that many don't. It would be nice to have the parts sorted by part class, then manufacturer, then manufacturer part number. This would put the parts in a logical, orderly fashion and the report would actually be usable.
