The "Record History" is a great feature which enables a user to trace (Provide an Audit Trail) a single record from its origin all the way to the current modified state which in some cases, could consist of multiple users making changes to the record and more importantly, how and when the record was modified each time a change was made. Currently, a user would need to bring up a single record and select "View Record History". Then, you would have to "drill down" on a particular row to see specifically (in bold type) how and when the record was modified all of which can be time consuming and cumbersome. While this is a considerable enhancement to the program, I would like to see if there is a way in which Sage (100 Contractor) could create some type of report or query which would give a person the ability to search for changes in records in all modules (G/L, P/R, A/P, A/R etc...) based on certain search criteria using filters. This way, much time could be saved in searching certain record data which could be meaningful.

On a side note,

The ability to search for change specific to some selection criteria could help expedite and authenticate certain areas of forensic accounting especially in cases related to fraud and embezzlement. In some cases, a company may be investigating an employee for suspicious financial activities. The company may be limited based on the time it takes to select records for viewing changes. If a report or query would be available to filter for record changes based on the User, then the employer would have a list of records specific to the matter and would be able to move much quicker in its investigation and to help mitigate the suspected fraud.

  • I think this is a fantastic idea. As well, sometimes records are altered accidentally and being able to audit periodically so that the error is caught sooner rather than later would be very helpful.
