Our IT consulting company manages Sage 100 for several of our clients.
We have one client who has multiple locations and all users sign in to a Remoite Desktop Server machine.
We have installed printers from all locations on the Remote Desktop Server so that any user can print to any printer in any location.
We even named the printers with a pre-pended number so that they (in theory) show up in order:
1. HP LaserJet MFP M234sdw - Red Bluff
2. DYMO 550 Turbo - Red Bluff
3. HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 - Anderson
4. DYMO 550 Turbo - Anderson
But they don't show up in order in the printer drop-down menu.
For some users, the order seems random.
I did a test for a new user and discovered that the first time you go in, the sort order of the printers in the drop down menu is in REVERSE alpha-numeric order!
So the first printer listed started with a "S" and the last printer was the one starting with a number 1.
So there are kind of two requests here:
1. Can the sort order be changed so that it is alphabetical? Which implies that numerically named printers would sort to the top.
2. Is there a way to delete the existing printer sort order for users without blowing away their entire UserData folder?
Since our users are all coming via Remote Desktop (RDP), all of their local printers are being redirected as well and in some cases they have printer drop-downs with over 20 printers! This is unwieldy and it forces them to scan the entire list to locate the printer they want to print to, which is often different than the default they have previously specified.
If the default sort order were always set to alpha-numeric, then we could control the order of the printers by a systematic naming convention and have the desired ones be at the top of the drop down instead of dispersed through the drop down menu in a list of many printers.

This is a great idea.
