If you need the info in Purchase Order, chances are you need it in receipts, especially since that is the "history" file.

I believe this is possible in v4.4
The PO detail is not on the list of business objects you can access.

You can do this. I'm not sure what version you're running, but this has been in the software for quite some time. This is not even a framework addition, this has been possible since the level 3 days. I've done it on a number of client's systems.
