Changes to state and local sales tax rates are becoming more frequent as government attempts to deal with debt problems. Currently, sales orders placed before a new rate becomes effective, but shipping afterward, requires some careful timing of entering the new rates and updating outstanding orders. An effective date field for new tax rates based on invoice date would allow entering the new rate at time of notification by the governmental jurisdiction and avoid delays to billing due to current maintenance steps.
