It's a very common mistake to enter an A/P check dated in one month and post it to a g/l in another month. This then causes problems when doing the bank reconciliation in that it will not agree to the general ledger because bank rec uses check dates, but the g/l uses transaction (update) dates. Much time is lost resolving these errors.
Would be useful in a/r and s/o invoicing as well as many other places in the program.

We had a major problem with company purchasing another. We closed periods, the purchase agreement was made based on the inventory and ap and ar aging valued at Dec 31. We closed the period. However, after, someone went and posted ar and ap invoices with an invoice date to the prior year. So the aging reports were incorrect. Caused a lot of problems. Please lock this down or give us better options to control this. There is too much room for error here.
Please, Please, Please!!! Errors on posting dates give us fits and a warning would prevent so many problems. It would help everywhere.
We routinely have AP invoice dates the month prior to the month the invoice is being posted. This causes the aged payables report to be out of balance with the control account, so we use the AP TB report for reconciling. But we still have lots of other posting errors - including recently dating a check for the wrong year!
