Currently, you cannot encrypt a vendor's Tax ID or Social Security Number within the Accounts Payable module.
Some states have started adopting laws to secure individual’s personal information to prevent identity theft. Massachusetts 201 CMR 17.00 which went into affect March 1, 2010 has the strictest requirements. According to 201 CMR 17.00 all personal information for residence of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts stored as data must be encrypted.
Nevada adopted a similar law, effective January, 1, 2010.

I tested the PII Encryption in 2020.0.1. The system only allows Inactive vendors to be encrypted. This makes no sense whatsoever. Active vendors will personal identifiable information as well as bank info(ACH Data). All vendors personal identifiable information should be encrypted. We should not hide the vendor name and address as users do not always use vendor name as vendor number,
The encryption should work like credit card information where one can see the last 4 digits of credit card information. The same logic should apply to vendor PII information.
This feature will be available in the 2023 Release, scheduled for April 2023.
