Presently users of payroll cannot start a new calendar payroll year without first printing W2 forms and related reports. This causes most users to copy their live data into a backup company via company maintenance.
This copy procedure is manual and while not complex does involve many steps. More than one customer has mistakenly copied a blank company over their live data which then requires a system restore from backup.
If there is going to continue to be a requirement to close out payroll prior to starting the new year - and W2 forms cannot be printed after the close - then Sage should consider adding a menu choice "Copy Payroll Year" which completely automates the process of making a "backup" company.
This "Copy Payroll Year" should prompt for the name of a new company code (ie - A12) and SHOULD NOT allow for overwriting any existing company code and it should automatically activate any modules/settings that previously may have been required to be done manually.
If this feature was added then most personnel could be locked out from accessing company maintenance and instead allowed to access the "Copy Payroll Year" feature which is harmless since there would be no chance that a customer would mistakenly copy blank data over their live company code.

And what would be EVEN BETTER!!! Keep the OLD tax tables WITH IT!!
So that way you don't have to reshuffle the amounts etc...
Sigh... no such luck I bet...
