The SMTP password has a maximum length of 14 characters.

Many transacational email providers require a longer password when using their SMTP interface. Two large providers which are affected by the 14 character limit are Amazon SES and Mandrill where the password that must be used consists of a very long API key. It would be very nice to have this limit generously increased, possibly to support the same length as the username.

  • I absolutely agree with this. Our company recently was the victim of information theft due to a data breach at a very large company we do business with. As a result, we have tightened up security in all areas, including 2-factor authorization on all email accounts.

Since we have 2-factor enabled, we need to generate an "app password" that can be used for Sage email. Unfortunately, there is no way to generate an app password that is short enough to meet the 14-character limit in Sage.

Come on, Sage, in today's world of every tighter security, two-factor authorization and the like, a 14-character password limit is no longer adequate. Please fix this in a future release. Thanks very much!

  • Had a Sage 100 user run into this because they had to tighten their security and switched to two-factor authorization which requires more then 14 character passwords.
