We need the ability to change the path to a memo attachment location or migrate memo attachments much like we can migrate the Paperless Office documents. Clients are beginning to use the Memo Attachments, and now if they move those attached documents, there is no migration path or no way to update the migration path to reflec the new location if these documents are moved.

  • Ideally this enhancement should offer to copy a document to a central location similar to how Paperless Office PDFs or Inventory Item Images are currently stored.

    1. Currently, users can link to a document at any location. If the location is no longer accessible (disk crash, machine disconnect, permissions, etc.) then the memo attachment is no longer available. As a current best practice (even without such an enhancement), you should designate a central location for all memo attachments so they can be backed up and are accessible to users with a need to access.

    2. If a company upgrades or migrates the server, those ilnks may no longer work if access to the original location is no longer available, or if the original location is changed. Again, current best practice (even without such an enhancement), having a central location helps if you need to re-establish links if needed.

  • As a user I want to create a memo, add an attachment, and expect that selecting an attachment on my desktop would be uploaded to the server and stored so that a different user on their own workstation can view the attachment. I do not want to have an additional step of copying the attachment from my desktop to a shared server. I also shouldn't have access to all attachments from everyone in one massive accessible folder.

  • I was looking for, and prepared to create, a suggestion as follows: "Ability to require users to use UNC paths for Memos". However I think this suggestion goes one step further, and correctly so. Similar to when a report is on my desktop, and I add the Report to the menu via Report Manager, that report is then copied to the ..\MAS90\Reports directory.

    If I'm reading this "Idea" correctly what we are asking for is for the Memo Attachment to be copied from my desktop to a central location, ideally under the MAS90 directory. That way it would:
    A. Be available to all users of Sage 100, and;
    B. Be available should the desktop it was attached from be offline, decommissioned, etc.

    I am looking into creating a script for a client of ours so that when a user attaches something to a memo it:
    I. Copies it into a central location, and;
    II. Creates a UNC path in the Sage file.

    I have already created VI Export and Import jobs to correct existing paths, for example in AR_CustomerMemo and AP_VendorMemo; but wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to do that.
