when looking up an item in maintenance, it would be convenient to have direct access to
the BOM with out having to go to BOM... a couple less steps.

This was added to the 2015 release. When in Item Maintenance click on the More button in the upper right of the screen. Choose 'BOM Maintenance' and Bill of Materials Maintenance will launch with the bill number defaulted to the Item Code from Item Maintenance. The reverse is true when initially launching Bill of Materials Maintenance, Item Maintenance is available from the More button in that task.
