I have searched extensively and conferred with our Sage VAR but I don't see a security setting to prevent users entering sales orders from creating purchase orders when there is insufficient stock to fill a sales order. The decision to purchase inventory should not be in the hands of the people who are creating sales orders nor for the people shipping product. If there is insufficient stock, the Inventory Control department should be the decision-maker for purchasing inventory. There should be a security option to prevent users from arbitrarily creating purchase orders for stock to fulfill orders. They are NOT the people who should be making that decision. That's true for most businesses. For example, an RMA is generated for replacement but there is insufficient stock to fulfill the replacement sales order. The person creating the RMA should not be making the decision to order more stock, the person shipping the product should not be making the decision to order more stock, and the person invoicing the sales order should not be making the decision to order more stock. Inventory purchasing decisions and warehouse levels should be managed by the Inventory Control department.
