In our industry, as is the case for most industries, there is the occasion to provide customers samples. Since Sage 100 doesn't allow line-specific Product Line Maintenance, the only option available at this time is to show the item as a sale with a 100% discount. That distorts sales and doesn't capture the cost of customer samples.

My suggestion relates to the Product Line option on the Sales Order. If a Product Line were created just for samples with pricing set to zero, it would be very easy to analyze sample turnover and costs. There should be a Sales Order Option to allow/disallow Product Line Maintenance at the Line level. Additionally, Role security could be set to allow only specific staff to maintain the Product Line changes. Pricing would be set to zero which then properly reflects the sale amount without muddying the sales/discounts values, and reporting/analysis would be far more accurate.
