When I called in and reported the problem that SAGE 100 does not trim whitespace characters when you paste an Alias Item Number, I was told that this is a common problem and that it is advised that you should not paste into SAGE 100. The problem is that if we don't paste we end up with data entry mistakes instead of unwanted whitespace characters.

It is best to cut and paste Vendor Item Codes or Alias Item numbers when those numbers are really long.

The industry convention for trimming part numbers seems to be that leading and trailing whitespaces (spaces and non visible characters such as /t /r /n) are removed automatically. Spaces in the middle are retained.

Without this,
-users can mistakenly enter duplicate entries of an Alias Part Number.
-B2B interfaces can be less forgiving than website interfaces. Having exact (trimmed) Vendor Item codes can prevent these problems.
