Allow user to overwrite populated fields and press enter to perform search. All other systems work this way. More work to have to navigate to OK button all the time!

• While I completely agree with you, I found that using the keyboard shortcut to be a better option than selecting the button with a mouse once you get used to it.
  
  Many of Sage's buttons have a hot key associated with them for this exact purpose, and the hotkey is generally underlined to let you know what it is. Pressing Alt+Hotkey is the same as clicking on the button.
  
  It's still not what you're asking for of course - and this wasn't meant to argue against it - I was just trying to let you know an alternative in the meantime. Still voting for this as search fields should be more streamlined as you've stated.
