Unless I am missing a setting or multiple settings, it appears that I can add inactive items in Bill Of Materials and Production Management without any warning
here are the places I have tested
Bill Of Materials Module:
• BOM Maintenance, as a component or as the Parent Item
• BOM Production Entry as a component or as the Parent item
Production Management Module
• Work Ticket Template component/Parent
• Work Ticket Entry component/parent,
• Work Ticket Transaction > Material issues.

At least a warning would be good... potentially with a Role permission to allow / block selection of the inactive item.
I want to clarify my Description above. when I say that inactive items are ignored, I should have stated that Sage is ignoring the fact that the item is marked as inactive. You can add them to these tasks and you can update them without any sort of warning. I agree with the other comment that a message box stating that the item is inactive would be sufficient. And adding something in Role maintenance to Allow/Block for some users would be ideal.
Wouldn't you want a prompt in Production entry when you create a work order that has an inactive component to prompt you about it and give an option to bring up Replace and Delete Component Entry with the inactive item and prompt for the replacement?
And when you mark an item inactive it should check if it is a component and do the same thing?
All these are great ideas for improving the code for inactive items!!!!
This functionality already exists in the Production Management module.
In Role Maintenance, Security Options, Production Management, there a security option that can be unchecked so inactive items will not be allowed to be entered into a template, work ticket or W/T transaction.
