After using Report Designer quite a bit: these changes would help out immensely:
- Allow teletype for fields: for instance I know that in a report, I want the AR Customer Field - Let us type out fields we know exist, and teletype out these fields. Options like "Due Date" that are in AR Activity and AR Transactions, first give preference to the driving record, then to other records with the name. These should allow us to use the arrow keys to go down fields.
- Color Code Parenthesis - This will allow for better visual formatting, and easier finding of missed ).
- Allow formatting to remain - this will allow us to better separate larger formulas, and it will make sorting through formulas like the canned AR Aging Formula to be easy to look through.
- Allow comments to show intent for future report designers / to show what your programmers meant by certain sections. As it is now, when going through canned reports, particularly more through and advanced ones, it can be a learning process to even discover the thought process behind the report.

It would also be fantastic to be able to print negative numbers in red or color code sections of the report so they print in color instead of just black and white!!
Generally, making this like Crystal Reports Lite would be nice - Sage reports are seriously lagging behind in quality.
