please experiment with QuickBooks to see how they do it, and emulate it to the extent your platform allows. if I want an invoice in on the 14th of every month, please don't make me go in and generate the invoices. I made a mistake once and wound up posting the same invoice more than once. on the day I want it in, you should initiate a pop up window with the items that are scheduled for that day, or even the next 3 days, or time frame I set as a default, and give me the option to make whatever modifications I want, i.e. the new invoice number, maybe a slightly different dollar amount, etc. if I know I am going to be away and want to have them post even though I don’t log in, you should have a list of all the upcoming recurring items, then I can click on them, and say ok I know we are a few days early, but go ahead and post these anyway. Generating all items based on dates has caused me to enter the same invoice more than once. you can make it so that the recurring invoice task is more powerful than it is now. I can’t use it for items I get a different invoice number for, or the amount changes slightly. I’d like to take advantage of data entry savings so I don't have to input job, cost code, GL # etc., but I need the flexibility of changing the invoice number, amount, etc. this can’t be that hard to accomplish programming wise. QuickBooks does it.
