The desktop upgrade to 16.1 removed much of it's functionality as a centralized desktop.

Previous to 16.1 items that had been added to desktop displayed their application type which allowed you to see if the documents were excel, word, adobe, etc. You were also able to easily drag and drop non sage files onto the desktop from windows explorer. After the upgrade all changes must be made through the manage favaorites section and you cannot drag and drop files from outside of sage.

We had embraced the desktop as an area to manage workflow for various positions in our company. In addition to having shortcuts to their tasks in Sage, it included links to up to date procedures (which are still there but harder to add new ones) and user added links to spreadsheets and other documents for the projects they an individual was responsible for (these can still be added but the need to navigate to the file vs dragging and dropping makes it too labor intensive to be usefull).

Comments

  • I agree. Functionality of new desktop is inferior to old verstion. Also doesn't allow us to keep both applications and favorites window open. Instead uses too much screen real eastate for sub menu. In addtion requires the reopening of PJ (or other modules) each time you want to use something in the PJ subwindow. We then have to endure the time it takes to reopen PJ to switch from say COR window to CO window. I assume this means we are also using a seperate license to have multiple sub menu items open at the same time. And lastly if you want to use a Crystal Report for your default page it doesn't generate it automatically. You have to manually generate it after the desktop opens and it doesn't fill the screen, it appears as a document in the center of the window.

  • While the Desktop in version 16 looks nicer, I agree with the comments above. The functionality in version 15 was superior.

  • Also the new desktop doesn't allow you to add new macros. So you have to open the entire module to run a macro that was not linked to your favorites before the upgrade. Since I have multiple macros on my desktop, it has also disabled my printouts shortcut.

  • Also need the ability to push out a defined desktop configuration to all users that does not require each users desktop to be modified.

  • The new desktop is less efficient, it requires more = too many clicks to access things that the old desktop had easily accessible.

  • The new desktop is less efficient. One example of too many clicks is having to print to file and then print to printer. Please fix functionality!
