This is in regard to the Hotfix for ODBC in KB 91721. Bottom line is the instructions for this "Hotfix" is for us to rename an existing file on our servers and all workstations then replace it with a new file. I would not call that a "Fix". That is just lazy. They have programmers and they need to build a simple utility that will install as an update when these issues come up. Once the server is patched there should be a way that when a user logs on the update gets applied in the background. Or we can email our users and have them click on the update to install like most other updates. Explaining to 40+ users and supporting their questions on how to perform this hotfix should not be a problem for our IT department.

Here is the reason why I'm so aggravated with this non-fix,

We've been having to get users out of all programs and the paperless system to post payroll for a number of weeks (maybe months not sure when it actually started). Same for closing the month in job cost. Just trying to find who has files open using the Pervasive file monitor is a pain. Users show up as a computer name (not the persons name) and users on remote desktop show up as a ID number. There is a windows utility called "Quser" that you can use to show the user name based on this number but with 30-40 people that have access to our system all of this can be a moving target. So we have 2 people calling and emailing trying to get everyone out while another one is trying to post/close or whatever. And this "Hotfix" is supposed to correct the issue with our paperless (and maybe other) programs holding files open when they are not really in use.
