The functionality that exists now is good but an icon shold be accessible directly from the Sales Order screen. It should also transfer all descriptions, instruction and comments to the Purchase Order. When the PO is received it should backflush the quantiy and cost back to the SO and automatically ship the SO.

Agreed - except I think an alert or a report that the SO can now be shipped would be a better idea.
Agreed. Transfer of SO descriptions, instructions and comments to the Purchase Order is very important. The solution should include options to purchase per line or per SO and select the Vendor(s), and to default drop ship to SO delivery address.
FYI - Code Partners has done a custom mod to do exactly this, and it works nicely. Sage, check it out....
Obvious!!! Why was this not included in the first place? This would save us a lot of time and trouble duplicating information.
On reflection it may be challenging to implement this functionality without creating other issues I am not aware of. My appologies for being abrupt. A possible solution to the comments issue may be to add a Copy Comments check box so the user can choose if they want to copy over the comments. We were very disappointed when it didn't have this functionality. It really would be a huge time saver for us.
This is a "no brainer" for Accpac to roll out. Will make many users happy with very little code to write or test since the functionality already exists. We would find it useful as well.
Just reinforce what has already been mentioned...even just the ability to specify the Vendor per Sales Order Detail line would be very useful.
This is much needed and exists in many other softwares. It's kind of embarassing to have Accpac be so cumbersome with drop-ships.
There are many 3rd party products available that add this functionality to Accpac. I understand that it would be nice to have this built in, but if it is somehting that is needed right away, take a look at the 3rd party site, or contcat your Business Partner.
3rd party addons are not the solution. In a sense, they are part of the problem, because it tempts Sage to think they have been let off the hook. 3rd-party products have their own variable architectures, interfaces, quality control, support etc, and come and go at the whim (or failure) of the developers, so we can not and should not have to rely on them. However, they do demonstrate the viability of the solutions, thereby proving that Sage could have done them in the first place.
