Most people work from calendar / tasks and would like to update the status of a lead / company / opportunity / case from the communication / task screen. Please add the ability to include progress and workflow functionality to the communication screen for the related (regarding) entity. This would make users more productive as they would not have to spend so much time jumping between tasks and entities and back again.

If the task is created by the entity workflow then the workflow can be originating entity workflow can be customized to include steps for the specific task or communication and as such would then be able to update the originating entity to the next step in the workflow process. I discuss this topic during the Sage Summit and Sage Insight sessions on Workflow and during my Advanced Features course offered to the Business Partner community.
Additionally, if the communication did not originate from the entity workflow then you would have no way to progress the workflow, which is where your original suggestion comes into play.

I understand that a workflow can create a task, but my sales and customer service reps work off the task list. They don't like having to jump between the customer / case / opportunity and task screens to update a workflow. They are on the phone w/ someone and want to be able to update the status of the related entity and have the system create the next appropriate task.
