Add the ability to COPY the setup from an existing company database, but copying only the setup files and master files, but no history.

Ideally, be able to select the components we wanted to copy as well, and have Accpac figure out the dependencies (kind of like 5.6 Activation does). So you could choose to copy just GL, AP and AR, but not IC and OE. It would copy all the Options, master files, etc., but no transactions. Or… if you choose to copy a company that includes IC, you could choose to copy just Items, Account Sets, Categories, etc., but not copy Pricing. But you wouldn’t be able to copy just OE and not AR, or Items without Account Sets, because of the dependencies.

This is useful for clients who need to set upa new company based on an existing company, for users who want to set up a test database without having all the history that's brought over from a DBCOPY, and for copying data from a test/pilot environment to a live environment on a new implementation.

  • Sorry Rebekah - I flagged your idea. I wanted to vote for, not flag your idea.

  • Great idea!

  • This would also be useful if you want to archive your existing database and migrate to a clean one with the same setup.

  • This is a really great idea!

  • CodePartners currently has a program called Company Duplicator for Sage Accpac that allows users to duplicate non-transactional records from the
Source Company to the Destination Company based upon setup
made to the Duplicator. You may decide which module(s) to
duplicate and then further select record type(s) within each
module. At the same time, you may decide if you want to
overwrite the existing records or just skip them. This
program accurately duplicates companies without including any
    transactions.

  • Not only has code partners created this tool but another developer has as well!

  • Tairox has created a tool for this as well.

  • Good idea to have in Sage Accpac itself.

  • Great idea...

  • Product Management has decided not to implement this feature in the core product. After extensive research we have determined that there are more valuable features we can allocate R&D resources too given the excellent 3rd party solutions already in the field.

  • hmm, Sage, why not just buy one of the third party tools and rub that in directly? R and D doesn't get hit, you meet the aim of adding value for upgrading and new users.

  • This already exists:

  • Am now sing the Tairox suite, copy company tool works well. Entire suite is good value, heaps of different tools and functionality extensions.
A prime candidate for purchase by Sage ; )

  • Sage please buy Tairox, integrate their products then get the Tairox team to implement all the IdeaScope ideas. If Tairox can produce such good products so quickly, and respond instantly to new feature requests, why can't Sage do it in 10 years?

  • Yes please - other sage products less superior can do this so why not ACCPAC

  • Tairox does this brilliantly, their tools only gets better.

    Still worth buying, Sage.
