The date format should be configurable on a user-by-user basis. This way, for example, users in a country where the date format is mm/dd/yyyy, using a VPN to access an Accpac database in a country where the date format is dd/mm/yyyy, could still work with dates in the format they are used to. Otherwise there is a danger of entering dates incorrectly -- for example, entering 12 August 2010 as 08/12/2010, and then finding that Accpac has interpreted the date as 8 December 2010.
