If the System Manager serial (and serial for other core modules) could stay the same for each new version then third-party providers could easily send out new activations to clients upon each new Accpac version (they will already have each client's SM serial.

This would avoid the time-consuming process of manually requesting activations by sending in SM serials to each third-party vendor when you want to do an upgrade. Sorting out activations when you have a client with modules from four different vendors is a pain.

Sage could still protect their licensing by releasing new client activation codes with each new Sage module. Surely the requirement for a unique serial could be overcome?
