Dropping Pervasive would be a huge step forward for Accpac, allowing more development time spent on features, enhancements etc. instead of time spent on cross-compatibility. Since many features of the current software (Portal) won't run on it anyways, we cant suggest it to our clients, so we ALWAYS go with SQL.

Other benefits of sticking strictly with MS SQL:
- Could optimize the database for MS SQL exclusively
- Could move Users, Locks, Lanpak use etc. out of the shared file model and into the SQL database (So many benefits to this!).
- Enhance performance of complex processes by using Stored Procedures in the database instead of doing them in the UI or Accpac Views.

  • What about Oracle support? Just asking....

  • I think the above points could apply to Oracle as they share similar TSQL compatibility. I really see no value proposition in the Pervasive offering any longer. At one point it was way cheaper than SQL, and was relevant in a peer-to-peer environment, but that's not really valid any more.

  • Thanks for sharing your feedback. The primary cost to support these platforms is QA. We evaluate which platforms to support with our product every couple of years. A significant percentage of our customers remain on the Pervasive platform. We will continue to support Oracle & Pervasive for the 2013 release.
