Many clients in the distribution industry who import goods do so via Containers. It would be extremely efficient to be able to track all pertinent information for a container. PO product detail lines and specific quantities of a line could be assigned to a container "header" which includes Container number, Initial Port of call, expected ship date, days to be at sea, Port of call to be delivered etc.. Multiple POs could be assigned to a container and when the container is received, the status of the container lines would be marked as quarantined until which time they have been confirmed (update quantities of individual lines only that are not correct), Once the container receiving process is completed there would be a PO update function which would update all received quantities for all associated PO details lines across all PO's in one transaction. Integrating a true "Landed Cost tracking" solution to this function would also be key in order to process "letters of credit" and track all associated costs for the container which could be prorated across all goods. This solution is available in many competitive ERP solutions in the marketplace. It would allow for better integration with the already existing functionality of Accellos One Warehouse software which can integrate with several Sage ERP solutions.

This is also needed by manufacturing companies. They need to know where their overseas components are so they can determine when they can manufacture product. The change of shipping location (on dock, on boat, boat left, arrived, in customs, cleared customs, in transit), and corresponding lead time (for each step of the shipping process), needs to be reflected in their manufacturing scheduling program. Maybe this can be done by updating the component PO “Expected Arrival Date”. Current status (location) and accumulating the estimated remaining days on the shipping steps that remains.
Lost a promising deal to SAP because we don't have this.
