. For some reason future transactions beyond the bank statement and posting date are appearing as outstanding transactions.

Future transactions are not outstanding transactions. A bank rec if all transactions to that date are cleared - book val should equal bank bal. This will never be the case and gives a misleading figure for book balance at a bank rec date.
