Most modern mid tier ERP's provide for dimensional reporting in the GL. Segmented accounts are way to hard to achieve this sort of function. Sage Financials and Sage EM (X3) both have this feature. Being able to create and track dimensional tags from entry transactions through to GL to report on is a must these days...

You can use optional fields to do this type of reporting.
@Django, the missing link to achieve this through opt fields is in the bank module where you cannot have optional fields against bank entry.
